Referencing another Form

New Interface

The following section describes how to Reference another Form.

You can link a Form Record of one Form to a Form Record of another Form using as common reference:

This way you can link the data submitted to one Form with the data submitted to another Form.

You can do so by adding a Reference Field in you Form.

Instead of linking your Form to another Form you can also link the Form to a Location Type or to a built-in Location Type.

You can also create customized Serial Numbers so that you can easily recognise -without revealing much information- what the Form Record is about if you choose to use the Serial Number as the common reference.

How to Reference another Form

  • Select the Database that contains the Form you want to refer to, click on the Form to select it and click on the "OK" button.

Notice that the Form can belong to a different Database!

  • On the Form Designer, click on the "Save" button.
  • The Reference Field has been added to the Form and Users will be able to choose from the Form Records available in the Referenced Form.
Example of referencing another Form using Key Fields.
  • In this example Form B references Form A by using the Form Fields defined as Keys.
  • First we create Form A which is the Form that we want to reference and we define the Key Fields.
  • Then, we add Form Records to Form A to create the selection of Form Records to which we will link Form B.
  • Then, we create Form B and we add a Reference Field following the steps from the above chapter.
  • Once added, the Reference Field will appear in the Data Entry and Users will be able to refer to the Form Records of Form A.
